The Conservative Case for Universal Healthcare | The American Conservative

Quote:
The barrier to universal healthcare is not economic but political. Is profligate spending on health care really a conservative value? And what kind of market incentives are working anyway–it’s an odd kind of market transaction in which the buyer is stopped from negotiating the price, but that is exactly what Medicare Part D statutorily requires: The government is not allowed to haggle the prices of prescription drugs with major pharmaceutical companies, unlike in nearly every other rich country.
looks like the times they are a changin'
...finally

We had it in England, and am not so sure it would result in a healthier country.
Paying into a system to provide healthcare for all was certainly different.
I think from each of my paychecks, they deducted something like 20 quid.

No...It's both...

California was attempting to do this statewide and found it would cost more than the whole state budget...

When a complete moron says a barrier is "not economic", they're "really" saying "Pay no attention to the obvious! Pay attention to my distractions to everything else but!!!!"...

Being Euro-ignorant, would you be willing to give us a basic percentage of how much of your paycheck (or that would be paycheque, lol) went towards the UHC?

Is that a flat amount regardless of your income level, or is that a percentage based 'tax'.
