Default Lessons from the great government shutdown of 1995-1996

I was curious how the last shut down ended, and came across this synopsis of events. It's a good short article with a history of the 90s event and pointers for this one.

Fact Checker - Lessons from the great government shutdown of 1995-1996

What a myth...

The Left is running around trying to force the false narrative that the shutdown of '95-'96 was one of the great disasters of the country, when, in reality, it was nothing more than a blip...

You would imagine that since this apocalypse happened, the public would've crushed the Republican Party in the Congressional elections of '96 and punished them for this travesty...

Ummmm...

Nope...

The Republican Party kept the majority in BOTH houses...Lost 2 seats in the 435-seat House, and gained 2 seats in the 100-seat Senate...Virtually unchanged...No damage...No "punishment"....Nothing...

...Which is what this "sky is falling" scenario is really all about...A "scare the hell out of the country" strategy to gain the House back...Nothing more...Nothing less...

to be fair, redd, that same time period is when, failing at getting their message across they resorted to faux investigations much like the ones going on now and even failing THAT found a woman willing to throw her "best friend" under the bus to embarrass a President.
So what my dilemma is is do I root for Obama to win this political game? Because if he does, Republicans might perpetrate something as bad or worse on this wonderful family we re so lucky to have giving their service and part of their lives to our country?

They lost 8 seats in the House actually, but the more important thing was that Clinton won in a landslide. The Republicans also lost seats in the next two elections.

The precedent this would set for the country would establish a fundamental shift in power that should scare people if they thought outside their "I hate Obama" bubbles.

One political party doesn't like something strong enough?
Simply threaten a government shut-down and hold the nation's budget and economy hostage.

But the Repubs want it really, really, really bad, so they appear to think the ends justify the means. It's just "negotiation" as harm comes to this nation.

currently-in house & senate- what are republicans doing?
asking for a 'meeting' with President Obama to "work out some of the problems with health care".

Yeah, I don't even remember it happening.
