Production in an Obama subsidized (which means "taxpayer subsidized") company...

Volt no jolt: LG Chem employees idle

Quote:
Workers at LG Chem, a $300 million lithium-ion battery plant heavily funded by taxpayers, tell Target 8 that they have so little work to do that they spend hours playing cards and board games, reading magazines or watching movies.

They say it's been going on for months.

"There would be up to 40 of us that would just sit in there during the day," said former LG Chem employee Nicole Merryman, who said she quit in May.

"We were given assignments to go outside and clean; if we weren't cleaning outside, we were cleaning inside. If there was nothing for us to do, we would study in the cafeteria, or we would sit and play cards, sit and read magazines," said Merryman. "It's really sad that all these people are sitting there and doing nothing, and it's basically on taxpayer money."

Two current employees told Target 8 that the game-playing continues because, as much as they want to work, they still have nothing to do.

"There's a whole bunch of people, a whole bunch," filling their time with card games and board games," one of those current employees said.

That employee says some workers are doing odd jobs around the building, including cleaning and maintenance, while others hang out in the cafeteria playing video games, Texas hold-'em and Monopoly or doing Sudoku or crossword puzzles -- all on company time. The employee said some watch movies.

"There's no work, no work at all. Zero work," another current employee said. "It is what it is. What do you do when there's no work?"

They told Target 8 they didn't want to talk on camera or be identified because workers signed a confidentiality agreement.

I think people would go for a cheaper model and the co should push the volt as the luxury model. i wrote them a letter to that effect.
All of us should try to buy fuel efficient cars.

But cnredd's point is that he dislikes government involvement in private enterprise. He thinks we are living in the 60's. Today we compete with countries like China who actively support their industries. They build the factories, fund the education, R&D, everything. If I looked at the space program in the early days and judged it's future from then we would have given up.

That is the difference between east coasters and west coasters. East coasters are "Settlers" and west coasters are "Pioneers". Settlers got off the boat after weeks at sea and said "We'll settle for this" where Pioneers said "This is nice but lets see what's over that next hill". Settlers live in the world pioneers build.

The Volt is already sold at a huge loss. How would they sell it cheaper? Oh I know, more government subsidies. Where does the electricity come from to charge the car batteries? Why from subsidized green energy of course. Where does the money come from to subsidize industries the government favors? Why from taxes on productive investment of course. How can these investors afford to pay these taxes? By not investing, not creating jobs. Ah the glory of the government managed economy redistributing capital from productive businesses to nonproductive ones in the public interest.

And where are alternative energy manufacturing start ups going to happen? China. Because they are willing to invest. Solyndra was about foriegn compition undercutting prices. So we lose jobs and the right cheers that they are so proud.

Solyndra was a $535 million payoff to Obama's campaign bundler crony. Thanks for validating my point about the failure of a managed economy. Once again the Federal government siphoned capital from productive companies and workers to squander on a losing investment.

If venture capitalists are so greedy why did Solyndra's IPO fail? It was because their objective was making a profit instead of Obama's political payoff.

Did you look into why Solyndra failed or does that matter?
