Default 80-year study: Democrats better at economics

Quote:
When it comes to which party is better for the economy, Republicans talk the talk, but it's Democrats who deliver the goods according to an unusual 80-year study of the impact presidents have on growth, personal wealth, the stock market and even 401ks.

The bottom line, according to Bulls, Bears and the Ballot Box: Of the five best economic presidents since Herbert Hoover, only one is a Republican. The paydirt finding: $100,000 invested during the 40 years Republicans had the White House would be worth $126,027. The same amount invested in the stock market during the Democrat's 40 years would be $3,912,210.

"Our book is a myth buster," said financial planner Bob Deitrick who co-authored Bulls, Bears with CPA and educator Lew Goldfarb.

Goldfarb blamed the conventional wisdom that Republican presidents are better economic managers on the inability of Democrats to tell their story. "Democrats stand on their message so poorly," he said. "Republicans, on the other hand, win the salesmanship merit badge every single year."
Quote:
The duo stumbled on their conclusions while working on a different issue. Researching the impact of politics on stock market trends, Deitrick realized that in the last 80 years, Democrats and Republicans have held the White House 40 years each, minus President Obama's term. They came up with a ranking system based on stock market returns, personal income, economic growth and business prosperity.

The best period was during the Kennedy-Johnson years, the worst Herbert Hoover, who presided over the Great Depression. In order, the rankings are: JFK/LBJ, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Bill Clinton, Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon/Gerald Ford, George W. Bush, and Hoover. Carter was the only Democrat in the bottom half of the list

I don't know how accurate but it's interesting.

Accurate???? It put FDR as being Pres. during a positive ecmonic period and gives the GD all to Hoover. That right there is enough for me to file this one under BS. It's also looking at Presidents and not Congresses. The POTUS has little to do with the economy (there are decisions that effect it somewhat, but not a whole lot), Congress is where the real influence comes from and this article ignores that basic fact.

Hoover came into Office as the Great depression started, when Wall Street came tumbling down around them. FDR came in 4 years later and with a Democratic Congress pushed through the " New Deal" and brought us out of the Depression caused by Coolidge and presided over by Hoover....

Funny to see you finally own up to the fact that our current Economy is not Obama's Fault. ... But I suspect to see a retraction to this post in

The fact that you think the New Deal is what ended the GD shows your complete ignorance of facts. The only thing ended the GD was the demand of WWII putting investment capital back into the hands of private enterprise. The New Deal did nothing but suck that investment capital out of the hands of private enterprise and put it into the hands fo teh gov't, which didn't do jack for the economy except to fund some projects at the expence of our economy (which all could have been funded and executed without gutting the economy, so don't think for one second that they required the high taxes of the New Deal).

If you paid any attention at all to my posts, you would see that I give very little of the responsibility for our current situation to the President and most of it to Congress (both to the good and bad). But that's just the truth and that's not a place you go to, so I understand your sad little attempt at lieing your way around this.

Denying history is ok I guess if you are a Republican . But don't kid yourself in thinking that the New Deal had nothing to do with the recovery. The Recovery from the great depression in the U.S. began in 1933.. then in 1937 there was a small recession that slowed it down again, but the GDP was back on an upward slope when WWII started. The War played a roll in that it freed the Government to increase spending dramatically. That's what ended the Depression. You don't get elected to four terms as President by doing a bad job...

The war more than quintupled the national debt............ in FOUR YEARS

You really need to learn history

They traded debt for unemployment.

Sound familiar?

So you're saying the spending done on New Deal programs had nothing to do with debt, if so you have a different history than the rest of the world.

No it doesn't sound familiar..
