BFD.....

It's not like this is an everyday deal.....

NOTHING is going to please everyone for one reason or another......

Access is there for the overwelming vast majority and that's a good thing....
With gas prices it is a bfd, my friend. And if you don't own a car then what?
You refuse to believe there are many many people in those circumstances who are not drug addicts nor are they frivolous. Also if my husband was not alive I would be pretty immobile myself. I can no longer drive. I am not on disability so I wouldn't qualify for handicapped transportation. And I doubt if they go out of town anyway. These clinics don't come and get you. It's all they can do to keep their doors open as less people than ever have any other option.

I agree insurance adds to the cost but I don't see why government should.

The right place at the right time? You mean when I was moving every 6 months or so for 20 years, each time I just happened to be in the "right place" at the "right time"?
If a person is already sick how are they going to get there?

How would they get to any doctor, no matter how close?

They could call an ambulance. We picked up transports all the ****ing time.

Medicare and medicaid paid for it mostly. But our costs were cheaper for the uninsured.

So charging the government more was OK?

I wasn't in charge of charging. But people with insurance generally get charged more no matter where you go. I've made no statement on that good or evil of that, just that it's what was done with the service I worked for and it's what's done in many hospitals and doctors offices.

Of course businesses have to charge more to paying customers to make up for the deadbeats who don't pay their bills. If they didn't do that, they wouldn't be in business very long.

People without insurance aren't deadbeats who don't pay. They just don't have insurance.

But they charge insurance companies and the government more because no matter how much they charge, the insurance or government is going to force the price down some. So they overcharge so they can get something closer to the amount they want. Plus, all of the overhead for dealing with insurance and government costs them money. So someone who is just paying cash saves the hospital and doctors money, so they can charge them less.

There's a blood test I need done regularly. If I get doctors orders for the test and put it on my insurance, the test runs about $200. But if I order the test myself and pay cash up front, it costs me $15. The difference is the overhead.
