Default CBO: Ending Bush Tax Cuts Will Send US Off 'Fiscal Cliff'

Quote:
A new government study says that allowing Bush-era tax cuts to expire and a scheduled round of automatic spending cuts to take effect would probably throw the economy into a recession.

The Congressional Budget Office report says that the economy would shrink by 1.3 percent in the first half of next year if the government is allowed to fall off this so-called "fiscal cliff" on Jan. 1. The cliff is what experts call the combination of higher tax rates and more than $100 billion in automatic cuts to the Pentagon and domestic agencies.

It's a point that Republican leaders have hammered at again and again in an effort to move President Obama into responsible negotiations over keeping the Bush tax cuts.
CBO: Ending Bush Tax Cuts Will Send US Off 'Fiscal Cliff'

So if we are in this financial mess because of Bush's failed policies, why are the Democrats in favor of keeping them in place? Why did they keep them in place when they had a chance to get rid of them? The term hypocrite seems to loom ever larger when looking at the party platform of the Democrats.

This means they are going to have to work together. Or else.

No. It means that the Dems need to sit down, shut up, be still, and let the grownups work.

When it's time to make sandcastles or finger paint, then we can cooperate.

The problem is the Senate and President cannot work with the House thanks to the Senate leadership's preference for ignoring House passed bills and the President's contempt for working with Congressional Republicans.

Sense this followed my post salty I hope I was not part of the feeble minded and I do agree with your point of both parties doing their jobs and find answers to our many problems.

I disagree with who is doing the blocking and shuffling. It appears to me to be and to have been the new Republicans ever since 2009. They used minority filibuster then their majority to kill any administration guidelines. And they pass things they know won't pass the senate therefore wasting time.

Is the part in bold where I lose you? If so I am sorry. The thread before this one got me upset. And I miss read something into your post. Your facts are right.

Again I am sorry to have made this mistake. I go when upset. Thats why I stay out of some threads. But with the elections coming I have to get more involved.

Hopefully without doing things like this one.
