Default Mass. unemployment rate falls to 6.3 percent in April; Employers add 2,500 jobs

Quote:
The Massachusetts unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent last month as employers added 2,500 jobs, more evidence of improving but far from stellar job growth.

It was the fifth consecutive month of reported job gains in Massachusetts, and the lowest unemployment rate since October 2008, the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported Thursday. Massachusetts employers have added more than 31,000 jobs since the beginning of the year, including 7,500 jobs in March.

“It’s not great growth, but it’s decent,” Northeastern University economics professor Alan Clayton-Matthews said. “Adding 31,100 jobs so far this year is a pretty good start.”

He added: “The state has been undergoing a recovery now for over two years. It’s been at a moderate pace and it is making an impact. It’s sort of the little choo-choo that could.”
Quote:
Massachusetts has rebounded from the recession faster than the nation as a whole; the state unemployment rate was 6.5 percent in March, significantly lower than the U.S. unemployment rate of 8.1 percent last month.

However, Massachusetts has yet to recover from the steep job losses it suffered during the downturn. The state lost 143,000 jobs in the recession that began in Massachusetts in May 2008, but has the state has regained just 81,500 of them through April.
Quote:
Mayer added that the gains have been distributed unevenly in in Massachusetts, mostly benefitting people living in Eastern Massachusetts, where many of the state’s high tech and biotechnology companies are located.
Nice to hear someone is having good news.

That is cool. really
I'm afraid the south is dragging last as usual. We've seen some sights on this trip. Hopefully someone will get a jobs bill through to help these people out. Or someone with a patriotic spirit will invent the next big thing and keep it in America.

Economic improvement in Wis. = Bad news.

We really never had the drop in employment here that some areas felt. So much is regional and seasonal when it comes to employment.

Glad they have an upswing. Truth will be if they hold that level through the Fall and Winter, when tourist season is down......

Any news where people get jobs is great news, and on who's watch doesn't matter.

I am glad to hear Spencer's son got a new job so fast. Yet how many other people got the same notice? And did they find a new job?

To make America a great place to live every one of age should have a job willing or not.

Cause that would change our nation so much for the good!

Michigan is kicking ass in general. We added 5000 jobs in April, and our unemployment rate is down once again, down to 8.3%. Last report had us at 8.5%, last April we were 10.5%, and at around the end of the recession we peaked at a staggering 14%, the worst in the country. Our economic growth now is outpacing the national average, GM is the #1 automaker in the world once again, all three of the Big Three are operating at a profit, manufacturing jobs are actually growing for a change, and we have a Governor who knows what he's doing. We're not done yet, but there's much to be proud of so far.

Thank's..I have to give my son a lot of credit. Over the years,he kept updating his education. He's a college grad but he volunteered to take extra seminars in new technology when it was offered by his company and that way,he remained up to date. Just for the hell of it,he also became a certified locksmith..
