Default John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment

Retired Justice is breath of fresh air...His honesty in how much hatred he has of the Constitution shines a bright light on Liberals' TRUE feelings while the rest of them cower behind wordplay and obfuscation...

John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment

Quote:
Rarely in my lifetime have I seen the type of civic engagement schoolchildren and their supporters demonstrated in Washington and other major cities throughout the country this past Saturday. These demonstrations demand our respect. They reveal the broad public support for legislation to minimize the risk of mass killings of schoolchildren and others in our society.

That support is a clear sign to lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons, increasing the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years old, and establishing more comprehensive background checks on all purchasers of firearms. But the demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform. They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.

Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.
There will be a few Dems who cheer this, but I suppose most will cringe and think "Stop telling the public our real goals! You'll get us killed in elections!!!!"...

Two points come to mind on this:

1. Repeal the 2A, and see which other A's come up for the same guillotine by the same group.

2. Good luck on ratification.

I just wish the rest of the Progressive's in our country would be as open and honest about their intentions and allow people to choose which path to follow for themselves. Too many progressives disguise their true intentions knowing that if most reasonable people knew what they really wanted, they would never be given the reigns of power.

Altering the Constitution by amendment is deliberately a difficult and lengthy process. 2/3 of Congress must propose and 2/3 of the states must ratify. Each state gets 1 vote. So 34 states must agree. 16 voted Democrat in 16. The math is simple.

That a former SC justice can make such a statement says far more about the former justice than the process.

..
To make such a monumental change to our basis for government Should Be difficult.
To bad so many have already found ways around the constitution that have practically made it a piece of decoration in many areas.

But the former Justices words are refreshingly honest.

If I am not mistaken, the number of states to ratify is actually 3/4's or 38 states. But yes, it is a difficult proposition, done so intentionally by the founders to prevent rashly altering the Constitution due to heat of the moment decisions.

Correct.

But I don't know whether JPS is honest or just plain dumb.

This.

It bugs the heck out of me when a President, swore to uphold the Constitution states if it gets in his way he still has his pen and his phone.

Democrats and liberals as a whole do not want the 2nd Amendment repealed. That is nothing but fearmongering on the right.
