Default Judge Blocks Mississippi Law Protecting Religious Objections To Gay Marriage

Almost at the last minute, a federal judge has declared a controversial Mississippi law unconstitutional.

The law, HB 1523, would have protected religious objections to gay marriage, extramarital sex and transgender identities. The judge says it favors some religious beliefs over others and would codify unequal treatment of LGBT people.

The state's governor has said he looks forward to an appeal, but Mississippi's attorney general has expressed hesitation over appealing the case.

To bad it is the Courts who have the say here.

Voters would chose differently.

Call it anything you want, just not "marriage" and I am fine.

It is not beyond fanatics to try to force people to accept a homo union as marriage.

Nobody loses any sleep over what you accept.

The political right...
The party that likes to pretend they're all about preserving how our founding fathers did things...
Are willfully ignorant of the fact that there have been NUMEROUS "religious standards" parading around as discrimination over history.

This is about government treatment of citizens who have rights.
We, as a country, have never said that government employees can use their religion to pick and choose what marriages they are willing honor.

But you have to have at least someone who is bothered over what someone says, and so he has to state his opinion.

If the belief in liberty and Justice for all is sincere, please explain how it accomdatest sincerely held religious beliefs that offend the LGBT community.Or, does the favored special interest group get to to rule by judicial fiat despite whatever laws the states pass.

Even as the judge tore down the protection the law offered for religious belief he claimed religiosity freedom was already protected.

He also noted that many of the protections offered by the law — the reasons proponents saw it as necessary — were already provided by the First Amendment and Mississippi's own Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
The judge claimed the protections provided by the law were in the Constitution while declaring the law unconstitutional.

Is that the first line of a bad joke? It has zero relevance to religious objection to homosexual marriage. It is down right silly.

Imagine a nation where freedom of religion is written into its Constitution where a Federal judiciary drunk on its own power simply declares a new "right" superior in every aspect to religious freedom. A right to marriage so favored by the judiciary that popular referendums in 25 states are nullified by judicial fiat and public officials risk jail time if their religious convictions conflict with the pleasure of the judicial overlords. Oh wait, we don't have to imagine it at all, it is happening today.

religious liberty =/= a right to discriminate in the public arena.
