Default Justice Ginsburg's future plans closely watched

Obviously, I'm not a fan of Justice Ginsburg...But she, like the other justices, are there in the SCOTUS until they decide to leave...

Which is annoying some of the Left...They want her gone BEFORE the elections next year in case Obama loses so he can handpick a successor and block the next president from nominating someone they don't like...

But there's one thing they don't consider...and don't give a rat's ass about...What THE JUSTICE HERSELF WANTS...

Justice Ginsburg's future plans closely watched

Quote:
Democrats and liberals have a nightmare vision of the Supreme Court's future: President Barack Obama is defeated for re-election next year and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, at 78 the oldest justice, soon finds her health will not allow her to continue on the bench.

The new Republican president appoints Ginsburg's successor, cementing conservative domination of the court, and soon the justices roll back decisions in favor of abortion rights and affirmative action.

But Ginsburg could retire now and allow Obama to name a like-minded successor whose confirmation would be in the hands of a Democratic-controlled Senate. "She has in her power the ability to prevent a real shift in the balance of power on the court," said Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California at Irvine law school. "On the other hand, there's the personal. How do you decide to leave the United States Supreme Court?"

For now, Ginsburg's answer is, you don't
.

There are few more indelicate questions to put to a Supreme Court justice, but Ginsburg has said gracefully, and with apparent good humor, that the president should not expect a retirement letter before 2015.
This is later on in the article...This is, IMO, one of the most DISGUSTING things I've ever heard on this subject....AND it's from a Harvard Law professor...

Quote:
But some on the left say that the focus on the personal is misplaced. Ginsburg needs to put self-interest aside and act for the good of the issues they believe in, Harvard law professor Randall Kennedy wrote recently. Kennedy said 72-year-old Justice Stephen Breyer should leave, too.

Too much is at stake and both life and politics are too fickle to take the risk that everything will work out as the justices desire, Kennedy said.
Got that?...

"Hey Ginsburg! You've attained the highest spot in the judicial branch, but you have to stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about people's agenda you can help."....

You can almost hear him say "...and you don't, you're a self-serving bitch!"...

I think this would be the case no matter which party was in power. They always want the oldies to check out while there is a chance to keep the seat longer. It's as old as the republic I'm sure. If the situation were reversed I am sure you would see the exact same thing and have. Seems logical to me.

This is why we need ALL elected/appointed positions to have term limits on them.

I admit, one the HUGE reasons I didn't want Mr Obama as a president was because of the SCOTUS positions he would be able to appoint.

I get the impression from the article, that maybe Ginsberg in none to happy with the quality Obama's first two appointees.

Whatever her political philosophy, maybe she just doesn't think that third or fourth string hacks should be appointed to the High Court.

Oh please, This isn't always necessary? Especially from the Thomas supporters.

Hey, I paid the Lady a compliment!

I am a Thomas supporter and he speaks well of Ginsberg.

Note that I put out the idea that someone with a philosophy with which ui disagree, might well be operating from a sense of duty and honor.
