Just from a 2 minute read of the article
1) The police followed a suspected drug dealer
2) They smelled marijuana
3) They knocked
4) They found the drugs
They didn't find "the" drugs- they just lucked into finding "other" drugs. They were in persuit of another man, and by happenstance barged into another situation, without a warrant, where people were smoking pot. I have a huge problem with this SCOTUS decision, and am really surprised at the position that the conservative arm of the court took.
"Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle... when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." -anonymous
