The Air Force gave a word of caution to the thousands of people planning to storm Area 51 in Nevada later this year, warning the UFO enthusiasts that the military "stands ready to protect America and its assets."
Pressed by The Washington Post on Friday about how officials plan to respond to those who turn up to the Nevada base, Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews declined to elaborate on specific details.
However, she did issue a warning to those who may be serious about a plan to infiltrate the Nevada Air Force base.
"[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces," McAndrews told the paper.
"The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets," she added.

Feds warn UFO enthusiasts against storming Area 51: The military 'stands ready'
If there was ever a time for the airforce/miltary to use the UTMOST restraint, it's here.
I know some folk love to hear that military is defendin' sumthin and have lil' to no remorse for those killed for going places they have no biz.
But I suspect 99% of these folks will be U.S citizens and it's just crazy for the U.S. military ....to shoot at U.S. citizens.... gathering at a U.S. facility... shot by weapons bought by their own tax dollars... by people trained to protect them.

I hope some general has sense enough to prep for various non lethal methods of deterring the public from .... seeing what their gov't is doing.

the whole thing it is a bit odd isn't it? seems to me anyway.
But hey, to some people the military and gov't are FAR more important than the lowly citizen's right to.. well just about anything. the gov't know best.
daddy gov'ts gotta keep his secrets to "protect you" so if you get to close... daddy G gotta kill you.
For the greater good.

I see it from the other side...

It's just crazy for actual US citizens to attempt to overtake an actual military installation...I'm sorry, but I'll take the side of the attacked before taking the side of the attackers here...

"Attacked" by probably unarmed citizens walking, who pay the soldiers salaries to protect them.

Just seems to me that all parties involved are on the same "side".
And the soldiers excuse of "I was just following orders" falls kinda flat when those that are "attacking" are ultimately a group of your bosses, just trying to look around their own property. not harm you as a soldier physically.
Is not seeing gov't property more important than citizen's lives?
Just so were clear, who's base is it again? The government of the who... by the who?

Is,
not seeing gov't property,
more important than citizen's lives?
is how that's supposed to read.

Following the rule of law is the most important aspect here. Breaking laws that they don't care for is something that people today feel that they can do with impunity. You seem to be asking the military to show restraint. Would you feel the same if a group of thugs decided to forcefully enter a school?

Your post sounds like something a liberal would say. I don't care who you are, veteran, regular civilian, other, you just don't march into some restricted area like you own the place outright, to see what is in there. Try it on a Navy ship and attempt to intrude into a restricted area. After you recover from the whack on the head delivered by a Marine guard, because he felt a bullet in your head would be overkill, explain to the Captain that you were within your rights as a taxpayer to move your ass into a danger zone. After he finishes with "God bless the Marines!", your ass will be jailed and investigated.

You social media darlings, you WILL be fired upon, and shot dead, if you attempt a gate rush. Military bases are not the border. Don't be stupid to prove a non-point. You will lose.

Rebuttals, especially from armchair combat veterans, will be entertained for a while.

You know you all make some interesting points.
and i want to reply to some of them
but refresh my memory, I don't think i took part in discuccions here about Clive Bundy and the armed take over the "goverment" property.
did you... do feel they were thugs and the government should have shown no restraint against them? since they didn't abide by the "rule of law" etc.

or was that somehow "completely" different so that there's ZERO comparison in you minds?
if so how?... beside the Bundy group being heavily armed, and to my knowledge this Area 51 group being unarmed.
