Default Natural Events that cause damage. :-(

Sense these natural events are happening I am starting a thread on them all and bringing in the links to others in the past I posted on.

Magnitude-7.1 quake shakes southern Chile

By EVA VERGARA, Associated Press Eva Vergara, Associated Press – 39 mins ago.

SANTIAGO, Chile – A magnitude-7.1 earthquake shook southern Chile on Sunday, prompting tens of thousands to flee the coast for higher ground amid fears it could generate a tsunami like the one that ravaged the area last year.

There were no reports of deaths or damage, and Vicente Nunez, head of the National Emergency Office, said no tsunami alert was issued.

"There has been no harm to people, no harm to property," Nunez said. "We will continue monitoring."

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii also said a destructive Pacific Ocean-wide tsunami was not expected.

President Sebastian Pinera urged calm in an address to the nation.

"There was an exercise of self-evacuation, which is exactly what we have asked people to do," Pinera said. "Fortunately we do not have to lament accidents or losses of life."

Some cell-phone communications and electrical power were knocked out in the Araucania region where the quake was centered, 370 miles (595 kilometers) south-southwest of the capital, Santiago.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was about 45 miles (70 kilometers) away from the provincial capital of Temuco, which has a population of about 250,000.

The quake struck at a depth of about 11 miles (17 kilometers), according to the USGS, and there was at least one aftershock of 5.0 magnitude.

When the first temblor struck, people in several coastal cities quickly moved away from the ocean, abandoning some shopping centers entirely.

In the communities of La Araucania, Puerto Saavedra, Tolten and Teodoro Smith, an estimated 50,000 people voluntarily evacuated to higher ground, according to Nunez.

Hundreds of tourists spending the New Year's holiday at the resorts of Villarica and Pucon cut their trips short and headed north, clogging roads and toll stations.

Residents of the region have fresh memories of the magnitude-8.8 quake and resulting tsunami on Feb. 27, 2010, that killed at least 521 people and left 200,000 homeless.

Sergio Barrientos, director of the seismology office at the University of Chile, said Sunday's temblor was itself an aftershock of last year's mega-quake.

I shall over time find other from the past to go with what is new reports. And There must be some on the last Iceland volcano.

Plus add in the current world situation, and you have a mix of Matthew, the part where Jesus, is ask how will we know the world will come to an end?

And NO I won't bring that up again or will debate it in this thread.

As we have a topic for Bibical points. And any Bibical discussion should be in the correct topic area.

In fact yesterday if you look at the California News Sites I posted in Local News & Editorials, in the Current News Topic area, wheeeee that was a mouthful

CA. had an earthquake about 3. something, which I saw only once while possting it.

Thats how sooo coool the CA., people are when it comes to earthquakes.

And as sorry as it sounds, when the big one hits the look on some face's will be the best on TV, period.

I pray it doesn't come in the next few Centuries. But I also say if it be thy will oh Lord...

Nothing of Bibical portion.

But I am sure the least one can do is pray for our fellow Americans, if one prays.
Be sure if your Insurance Company is invoved with a large part of the recovery you will feel a bite if your state allows for an increase in Insurance rates on homes or cars.

Nature doing it's thing, with crickets, blackbirds and fish dying off in big numbers.

A virus has killed millions of crickets raised to feed pet reptiles and those kept in zoos.

The cricket paralysis virus has disrupted supplies to pet shops across North America as a handful of operators have seen millions of their insects killed.

Some operations have gone bankrupt and others have closed indefinitely until they can rid their facilities of the virus.

Cricket farms started in the 1940s as a source of fish bait, but the bulk of sales now are to pet supply companies, reptile owners and zoos, although people also eat some.

Most U.S. farms are in the South, but suppliers from Pennsylvania to California also raise crickets.

The virus had swept through European cricket farms in 2002. It was first noticed in 2009 in the U.S. and Canada.

The virus marks the latest in a recent series of mass animal deaths.

Blackbirds fell out of the sky on New Year's Eve in Arkansas. In the days that followed, 2 million fish died in the Chesapeake Bay, 150 tons of red tilapia in Vietnam, 40,000 crabs in Britain and other places across the world.

However, biologists say these mass die-offs happen all the time and usually are unrelated.

Federal records show they happen on average every other day somewhere in North America...........

And............................................... .................................................. .....

Video: Arkansas’ animal deaths: Coincidence or conspiracy? (on this page)
In the past eight months, the U.S. Geological Survey's National Wildlife Health Center has logged 95 mass wildlife die-offs in North America and that's probably a dramatic undercount, officials say.

The list includes:

•900 some turkey vultures that seemed to drown and starve in the Florida Keys.
•4,300 ducks killed by parasites in Minnesota.
•1,500 salamanders done in by a virus in Idaho.
•2,000 bats that died of rabies in Texas.
•And the still mysterious death of 2,750 sea birds in California.
Officials blamed the deaths of 5,000 red-winged blackbirds in Beebe, Ark., on New Year's Eve fireworks.

Experts say the loud cracks and booms likely sent the birds into such a tizzy that they crashed into homes, cars and each other before plummeting to their deaths.

Of all natural disasters, earthquakes concern me the most.

A person can usually take shelter from a hurricane, twister, flood......but not earthquakes.

We went to Alaska 4 years after the Great Quake in 1964 , but you could still see the devastation.

My ex-wife was a little girl and every time we had a tremor, she would become paralyzed.

For those that lived through it, their lives were never quite the same.

The 1964 Alaska earthquake, also known as the Great Alaskan Earthquake, the Portage Earthquake and the Good Friday Earthquake, was a megathrust earthquake that began at 5:36 P.M. AST on Good Friday, March 27, 1964.[2] Across south-central Alaska, ground fissures, collapsing buildings, and tsunamis resulting from the temblor caused about 131 deaths.

Lasting nearly five minutes, it was the most powerful recorded earthquake in U.S. and North American history, and the second most powerful ever measured by seismograph.[3] It had a magnitude of 9.2, at the time making it the second largest earthquake in the recorded history of the world.

Then you missed 2 great History Channel Shows last night on Earthquakes. The first was about a 10.+ Earthquake. Year: 2011

And the second which I saw B-4 was about the 1811 & 1812 New Meridian Earthquake and what if it hit today. Year: 2008

What surprised me the most in the first one was it was made this year... And they covered what you speak of..

That is why I try to be off line by 6: PM if not before.
