What surprised me the most in the first one was it was made this year... And they covered what you speak of..

That is why I try to be off line by 6: PM if not before.
I recorded it and watched this morning.

I was aware of the New Madrid fault and that it caused the Mississippi to actually run backward.

I wasn't aware of how far away it was felt..........and the POTUS woke up from it though.

Video's of this on the upper left at the site.

And did you see last nights documentary on Volcanoes, I forget what channel. Or the one on The Nostradamus Effect on History International?

Both of these were very informative, and made one realize just what America and the world faces in some time in the near future.

Boarder Wars on the HIstory Channel was new last night as it is every Wednesday evenings.

What they do catch is worthy yet even the CBP admits it is less than 30% of what does make it into America.

I believe that is a higher rating myself, but it shows more has to be done to end these ruthless Cartels control on the drug trade coming in to America.

Now back to the thread if that is alright with you AK? P.S. I don't record shows any more. I get many 3 hours later repeats and with cable I have "On Deman" plus many shows come on again durning the week.

Death toll rises above 500 in Brazil mudslides

By JULIANA BARBASSA, Associated Press Juliana Barbassa, Associated Press – 10 mins ago.

TERESOPOLIS, Brazil – Grieving mudslide survivors carried the bodies of loved ones for hours down washed-out mountainsides on Friday as the death toll hit 514. They told of entire neighborhoods in a resort city destroyed and pleaded for food and water to reach those still isolated by Brazil's deadliest natural disaster in four decades.

Officials said the death toll in four towns north of Rio de Janeiro was still rising and could jump further once rescuers can reach areas cut off by Wednesday's slides. They refused to even guess how many remain missing. Local reports put it in the hundreds.

Fernando Perfista, a 31-year-old ranch hand, walked with friends for hours through the night, carrying the body of his 12-year-old boy, the only of his four children he had found.

In the Fazenda Alpina area where he lives, Perfista said uncovered bodies still lay on the ground and the injured left to suffer on their own because no relief had yet reached them.

He said he found his son's body buried in the mud and had to put it in a refrigerator to keep it from dogs while he went out to search without success for his other three children.

Friends helped Perfista haul the boy's body to town, where they buried him Friday. Like the scores of other survivors standing outside a morgue in Teresopolis, he was dazed with the shock of sudden loss.

And as Katerina proved we in America are not ready for any large scale natural event, or man made ones.

So what these people feel one day will be what some in America will feel.

Hey the guy is about moved in downunder, you would think he might say something about this, if he has I haven't seen it.. And this would be the topic to place anything related to this great flooding in...

Floods take major toll on Australian farms, mines

By JOHN PYE and ROD McGUIRK, Associated Press John Pye And Rod Mcguirk, Associated Press – 46 mins ago..

BRISBANE, Australia – A volunteer army was wading through stinking mud and drenched homes Saturday in a massive cleanup operation as floodwaters receded in Australia's third-largest city.

Thousands of residents joined 600 military personnel in what was dubbed "Salvation Saturday" to shovel up the muck and clean houses and businesses inundated by the Brisbane River earlier this week, another casualty of weeks of flooding across the state of Queensland.

"Everybody rolls up their sleeves in this town," said Brisbane Mayor Campbell Newman, but cautioned that the complete cleanup of the city would take months, and reconstruction could take up to two years.

The floodwaters that swamped entire neighborhoods in Brisbane, the state capital, have left behind a thick layer of putrid sludge that covered streets and thousands of houses. More than 30,000 homes and businesses were flooded with muddy water and officials warned some residents their homes were so badly damaged they'd need to be destroyed.

Weeks of relentless rains and flooding across Australia's northeast have left 26 people dead. An additional 20 people are still missing. Most of the people unaccounted for are from the Lockyer Valley and the nearby city of Toowoomba, where a sudden downpour on Monday caused a flash flood likened to an inland tsunami.

The overflowing rivers and continued rain in some parts of Australia have led to flood alerts in four other states Saturday.

I guess the golf courses never flooded, hey Mikeyy?

Brazil slide survivors left to fend on own

By JULIANA BARBASSA, Associated Press Juliana Barbassa, Associated Press – 25 mins ago.

TERESOPOLIS, Brazil – They are tired, hungry, traumatized — and resigned to saving themselves without the aid their government promised after massive mudslides that killed nearly 600 people.

Wanderson Ferreira de Carvalho lost 23 family members — including his wife and 2-year-old son — in massive mudslides, yet spent Saturday hauling water and food up steep jungle trails. Emotionally numb, physically exhausted, he knew nobody else was going to help save friends in his remote neighborhood, isolated after a road was washed out.

"We have to help those who are alive," he said as he hauled supplies five miles (eight kilometers) up the dangerous trail. "There is no more help for those who are dead. I've cried a lot and sometimes my mind goes blank and I almost forget what happened. But we have to do what we must to help the living."

Hundreds of survivors are in the same situation as Carvalho, forced to save themselves after torrential rains earlier this week triggered rumbling mudslides early Wednesday in mountain towns north of Rio de Janeiro. The death toll had risen to 598 by Saturday, and there were fears it would climb sharply higher once remote areas were reached.

Carvalho seemed to find solace in working feverishly to help his friends. After he got word that his father's body was found badly decomposed, he also decided that he didn't want rescuers to try and find his son and wife.

"I would rather not see him now," Carvalho said of his son. "Whoever is buried, it's better to leave them in peace."

[Quote]Break in rain allows Brazil to reach slide victims

By JULIANA BARBASSA, Associated Press Juliana Barbassa, Associated Press – 12 mins ago.

TERESOPOLIS, Brazil – A break in near-constant rain Sunday allowed Brazilian rescue helicopters to deliver desperately needed food and water to some of the neighborhoods buried under tons of earth in mudslides that killed more than 600 people.

Rain clouds lifted, allowing about a dozen helicopters to buzz around the craggy peaks of the emerald-green mountains in this area about 40 miles (65 kilometers) north of Rio de Janeiro.

"The priority is the rescue of people who are still isolated. We have to take advantage of this break in the weather to help people in these remote, collapsed areas," said Alexandre Aragon, head of the Brazilian National Security Force, which is aiding in the recovery.

The helicopters were not immediately being used to evacuate people from areas that are still at risk of more mudslides should rains return. Instead, they were concentrating on getting supplies to as many isolated areas as possible to keep people there alive.

The disaster hit in the early morning hours Wednesday, when days of heavy rains unleashed tons of earth, rock and raging torrents of water down steep mountainsides and directly into towns over an area of about 900 square miles (2,330 square kilometers). The known death toll stood at 626 people Sunday. Officials fear it will rise sharply as the remote areas are reached and more bodies found.

Anderson Correia de Oliveira, the local police commander, said there would be no miracle rescues of people buried under the mudslides after four days.

Dozens trapped by New Zealand quake that killed 65

By JOE MORGAN, Associated Press – 33 mins ago

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – Office workers trapped under their collapsed buildings sent messages to the outside as rescuers with dogs scrambled to save them and dozens of others following a powerful earthquake that killed at least 65 in one of New Zealand's largest cities.

At least 100 people were reportedly missing and believed buried. Search teams assisted by floodlights and earth movers worked through dawn Wednesday, trying to dig through crumbled concrete, twisted metal and huge mounds of brick.

Medical workers brought the injured to a triage center set up in a park in central Christchurch, while military units patrolled near-empty streets disfigured by the huge cracks and canyons created in Tuesday's 6.3-magnitude quake, the second powerful temblor to hit Christchurch in five months.

The quake toppled the spire of the city's historic stone cathedral, flattened tall buildings and sent chunks of concrete and bricks hurtling onto cars, buses and pedestrians below.

Web designer Nathaniel Boehm was outside on his lunch break when the quake struck just before 1 p.m. He saw the eaves of buildings cascade onto the street, burying people below.

Others tried to claw their way in, but he didn't see anyone come out.

"People were covered in rubble, covered in several tons of concrete," he said. "It was horrific."

It even shook off a massive chunk of ice from New Zealand's biggest glacier some some 120 miles (190 kilometers) east of Christchurch.

The Christchurch earthquake has caused 30m tonnes of ice to fall off the Tasman Glacier, on the other side of New Zealand's South Island.

The huge amount of ice has broken into icebergs now floating in the Tasman Lake; one is 250m (275 yards) long.

It had been expected that the ice would break one day but people were surprised that an earthquake triggered the fall.

The Tasman Glacier is 200km (125 miles) away from Christchurch, near the west coast of the South Island.

The piece of ice disloged was 1.2km (0.75 mile) long, 300m (330 yards) high and 75m (80 yards) wide.

It fell off the face of Tasman Glacier, in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, on Tuesday afternoon, soon after the earthquake struck Christchurch.

The general manager of the Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Village, Denis Callesen, said recent heavy rainfall in the area had made the ice chunk vulnerable.

"The earthquake that we felt here was a swaying motion for about a minute, then it stopped and then it swayed for about another minute," he told the AFP news agency.
A group of people travel with Glacier Explorers to see one of the many icebergs that caved into Tasman Lake 22 Feb 2011 The glacier's ice shears have attracted tourists onto Tasman Lake

"Within about a minute of that happening, the staff at the lake heard from five kilometres away a sound that sounded like a rifle shot and then over the next two minutes all the events started to unfold.

"I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the earthquake was the trigger."

The Department of Conservation was more cautious about blaming the fall directly on the quake.

"You could argue whether the earthquake precipitated it or not - the fact is that the terminal face was about due to calve anyway," area manager Richard McNamara told AFP.

A group of tourists on a boat in the lake at the time were walloped by giant waves created by the calving.

Mr Callesen said they had not been in danger and had the trip of a lifetime.

This was estimated to be the third largest calving to have occurred in the lake in the last 40 years.

All three happened in the last two years.

How many will stay and build the city again? Do they fear a 3rd quake?

Bleak future for Christchurch as population flees

by Amy Coopes – Sat Mar 5, 10:46 pm ET

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AFP) – After a deadly earthquake left homes creaking and wiped out buildings and jobs, thousands of residents have turned their back on Christchurch, raising questions over the city's future.

City officials estimate one-sixth of Christchurch's 390,000 population -- some 65,000 people -- have fled New Zealand's second city, terrified by incessant aftershocks or because their workplace has been affected.

The key question is how many of those departures will prove to be permanent.

"I'm leaving," said resident Tyra Yeabsley, who was in the worst-hit CTV building a day before the February 22 tremor razed it to the ground, killing dozens.

"I was always intending to but this has just made that resolve to move all the more strong."

The shallow, 6.3-magnitude quake devastated the South Island's bustling tourist gateway, reducing two major office buildings to rubble, leaving a large hotel tilting and causing parts of the iconic Christchurch Cathedral to crumble.

Estimates are that the tremor -- that killed at least 166 people -- destroyed one-third of the buildings in central Christchurch and left 10,000 people homeless.

Mayor Bob Parker has warned it could be months before parts of the city reopen, and though the government has underwritten all employees' wages for six weeks in a bid to protect jobs, prospects for the CBD's 52,000 workers are uncertain.

"I know already that populations in other towns in the South Island have risen exponentially as people from here who have the ability to or have a holiday home or have a contact relocate," Parker told AFP.

The only show that made ANY sense about 'natural disasters' ran on the History Channel and was called 'Life After People' ... that's when all these 'natural events' can be placed in proper context, namely, the only time ANY of 'em constitute a 'disaster' is when they strike an area populated by humans. Remove people and - VIOLA! - no problem ...
