Default Autistic Teenager asked to leave church

This was on Fox and Friends this morning so I have no link unless they have posted the video.

Any seems a family with an autistic teenage boy recieved a restraining order telling them they could not longer bring thier son to mass. According to a statement from the church the boy continues to be disruptive during the service and poses certain dangers to others. He has spat of people, urinated in the church, and gets up and swings his arms and legs around wildly during the service and I guess when people are coming and going. he is 6' 2" and weights 220 pounds, so such uncontrolled behavior could pose a threat to others.

From what I can sumise the church must have tried to work with them to no avail and finally asked them to not bring him to the service but the parents refused and thus the legal restraining order.

The mother was interviewed and went on about claiming a right, and that if anyone object THEY should go to another church or sit up front etc. She admitted the boy does all these things but took the attitude that it was everyone else problem not theirs. She said they had thought about asking to use the baby crying room but thought that would dsitrub the mothers in there trying to feed and care for the babies.

What do you think? If the kid is as the church is saying don't they have a right and an obligation to make sure the other hundred or so people can attend the service without such distrubance and in fact danger that kid might injure someone with his out of control behavior.

Or are the parents correct that the kid has a "right" here and the church must allow him to attend services?

Oh here is the link to the video of the story this morning

The church has to protect itself from potential lawsuits stemming from the fact that this person is known to do these things...If they don't refuse entrance and something happens, the church may be held liable...

As a brother of a mentally challenged person, I understnd the extra hardships a family has to go through, but nonetheless, it IS the family's responsibility and not the church's...The restraining order should be imposed and carried out...The mother is outright wrong...

Did you watch the video of the story?

The mother comes off as a, everyone has to accomodate us or go elsewhere. This kid is big and if he has an out of control episode someone could get hurt.

No church has to allow anyone to enter.

The church is a private institution and has the right to decline access. It also has the right to protect itself from litigation stemming from injury. Many churches are equipped with a crying room or overflow rooms that may prove to be a compromise in this situation.Video and audio are piped into the room.I think the church should make every attempt to accommodate it's members but they are not legally required to do so.I'm sure that they do not enjoy turning anyone away.

There are adult day care centers for situations like this. Admittedly, there are not enough of them. I can empathize with the parents and the church elders/fathers on this one. I too am sure the church is not happy about having to take this route.

Consumption is indeed important in a free economy: particularly the freedom of consumers to buy their goods in unhampered markets. However, key to long-term economic growth is investment (savings), which is the opposite of consumption. Public policies that promote consumption — such as low interest rates — do so at the expense of savings. Less savings means less investments; an economy that does not save or invest will consume all of its resources and eventually end up bankrupt.-David Saied
