I was listening to my favorite station this morning (rarity, since my hubby was driving and only likes classic rock), and this catchy song came on (lyrics below). I am not sure how I feel about my 11 year old daughter humming this under her breathe. I respect the opinion of most people in this forum, and was hoping for your say.

Basically, I think it's hard enough for parents to deal with the sex-loaded environment our children are exposed to. Is it wrong of me, who am already overwhelmed with having to explain the birds and the bees to my daughter, to also now feel cornered into introducing her to homosexuality? I hope you can view this in light of the way I am putting it out there, as parental concern. Is there a "right age" or a "wrong age" for these topics to be discussed with kids?

The right age and/or wrong age SHOULD be based on each individual parent...

But you shouldn't worry about it, because there are groups that work with schools that intentionally undermine your concern and teach your children about "introducing her to homosexuality" whether you like it or not...

Looks like the song did your work for you. Hey how you gonna tell your kids their all gonna die sometime. That would seem a little more traumatic to me. Some things are a little uncomfortable. Thats life.

I like kissing girls too.

Let me add telling her about death to the list of things she needs to be exposed to at her age,

You should join forces with my hubby who almost sh** a brick when the Rosie O'Donnell special hit Nickelodeon. He has not caught the gist of this song yet.

My daughter started asking questions about what it means to be gay when she was 5 or 6 - kids are not blind. I just don't think I am comfortable with having it forced on me (or her) like this.

The book concludes when the two princes kiss.

Maybe that's why my daughter asked me what it meant to be gay when she was 6 or so,

. I get notices from her school on other classes, that I might object to their teachings like say sex-ed, where they give me the option of her attending or not. I would not be against this topic being covered in school, as long as I am notified.
