I had complete trust in the staff but if my kids came home with additional questions,I would also be ready for them.Like I said, this looks like a story about loving and caring for others. This would seem appropriate for any age group. However...I have not read the book and perhaps the parents who objected to the book took the time to read it and then found "something" that concerned them.I would like to know WHAT they found objectionable!

OK. I seem to have misunderstood. I thought you were saying that based on what you knew about the book that you would not want your child reading it until age 12.

I read the text the first time it was in the news and found nothing to object to for any age. But I'm gay. I don't have a problem with little children reading about same sex couples any more than I have a problem with them reading about opposite sex couples.

I believe in a well rounded education with very few subjects being taboo.Still,I would not want my kids reading something like Catcher In The Rye before age 12. That book is very graphic, great book but not for the young reader. The book in question seems to be more about love and nuturing,I don't see the harm in that.

Sure, some books are not intended for the young reader but I don't think the book in question is one of them. Some may argue that the book promotes gay acceptance or the "option" of being gay. I just don't buy that argument because I believe being gay is not a choice. I do not recall ever making a "choice" in my preference for the opposite sex! It just seemed natural..

It seems like there are enough heterosexual couple stories and books out there to ensure that any "perceived" harm by reading this book will be greatly marginalized...

The hypocrisy of this claim is exposed by simply observing that the Bible IS ALLOWED on the book-shelf, while a simple book about two penguins who happen to be of the same gender is prohibited.

The only other thing I get from your post is that you disregard the constitutional doctrine as "spew", while proclaiming bile towards gays.

Here's a challenge for you jim.
Can we eliminate the hypocrisy by allowing BOTH the bible on the book-shelves, AND this book?
Or is the hypocrisy YOURS in only wanting to allow yours...

This looks like two male penguins rescue an orphan egg and take care of it till it hatches. So far I don't see a reason to get upset. I'd like to read it before I form an opinion. But I won't be home till March and then my daughter is getting married. This thread will probably be in the dust bin by then!

I was raised by two women who were related to each other. Never was around men on a constant basis, although I had some really neat uncles! I was an oddball back then. But I know a lot of people who were raised by their granny or
a friend of the family who just couldn't see a kid put out in the cold.

I don't know how much detail the book goes into, but I doubt if it has explicit sex scenes since it is a childrens' book.
And it's based on a true story. I find that intriguing.
Somebody read it and give us some excerpts!
