I find it detrimental to any child's upbringing when they go to school and are being told that A,B and C is acceptable and then go home and hear that it's not...IRRELEVANT of who's right and who's wrong...<<<< I don't know how to "quote"... but this was written by CNREdd

I feel like this was a prevalent problem in the 60's... how did that turn out?

Are you talking about civil rights? Because in the sixties parents had more control over what schools let their kids read.
And the kids picked up on civil rights anyway.

Schools should keep such nonsense out.It is hypocritical of these degenerates to spew seperation of church and state and turn around and allow homosexual indoctrination in our schools.
Plato knew the value of keeping immoral propaganda away from children.

And shall we just carelessly allow children to hear any casual tale which may be devised by casual persons, and to receive into their minds ideas for the most part the very opposite of those which we wish them to have when they are grown up? We cannot.... Anything received into the mind at this age is likely to become indelible and unalterable; and therefore it is most important that the tales which the young first hear should be models of virtuous thoughts....
Plato

I agree in principle, some material should be kept from the very young. This is a "Children's" book, that covers a lot of territory! I would not want my "child" reading it until the age of 12.At that age,I doubt they would even be interested in the subjects of this book.

The issue should be addressed if there is a child in the class with same sex parents. It's imperative that the students understand what is going on. Children are mean and vicious when they don't understand something and the child should not have to suffer for the relationship of their parents.

Talking about Billy having two mom's is just as relevant as talking about preparing for a new sibling and is even less sexual.

They just ask them to be smart, truthful, honest, and show a modicum of good sense." Ann Richards, Former Texas Governor

Can I safely assume that you would have no objection to a book about an opposite sex penguin couple who adopted another couples extra egg?

I would not ban any book even a book about "same" sex Penguins adopting an egg! My only concern would be at what age would this material be appropriate and it's content understood. One would think that caring for another person or "egg" would be appropriate for any age or for that matter sexual orientation. If the child had questions,I would hope that they would be addressed in a loving and caring manor. If I were on the school board,I would vote to proceed with caution and be prepared for questions.

I just don't see an evil agenda here...

Agreed. No evil "agenda."

I was just trying to understand why you would not want your own child reading the book before age twelve.

I would want to know about it but the school my kids went to would be prepared to answer questions. I had complete trust in the staff but if my kids came home with additional questions,I would also be ready for them.Like I said, this looks like a story about loving and caring for others. This would seem appropriate for any age group. However...I have not read the book and perhaps the parents who objected to the book took the time to read it and then found "something" that concerned them.I would like to know WHAT they found objectionable!
