Boy wants to return to school as a girl
Quote:
This kid should be in psychiatric care (unless it's some sort of bad hoax)... ![]()

If this is how any of you feel, I suggest that you ask yourself when you knew you were a boy or a girl -- not because someone told you but just because you knew.

Trangendered persons are coded opposite. I don't see the point in trying to convince this child that she should just accept being a boy. That doesn't sound like something that would be very good for her. |

I haven't looked in to this enough to know how many educational options are available to the child, but placing the kid in a situation where there is the potential for recognition makes for an uncomfortable situation for both the kid and those who have known him/her as a different gender.
Why not place the kid in a completely new environment if that is a possibility? |

The positive is teaching the other children that there are people that are different from them. Instilling a respect for difference is positive.

I've hesitated to make comment on this story but here goes. As a parent I would be very concerned returning my boy as a girl to the "same" school. The emotional scars inflicted on this child by classmates may well detract from any perceived "gain". If people want to experiment with the social ramifications caused by this moronic move fine but I would not put my child through this manouver.I would place my "child" in another school in the district or in a private school. All of my children attended private schools and the tuition was a struggle but well worth the outcome...

Absolutely not! Children are imaginative and very undefined in their gender roles as it is. There is no reason to indulge this child's fantasy life to this extreme. The psychological and emotional ramification can become cataclysmic by the time they reach adolescence.
Barring some type of sexual assignment surgery being badly picked for a hermaphroditic newborn (because these things do happen), all this gender bending should be reserved for a time when the subject is old enough to make decisions for his or her self. |

Allowing a child to socially transition at a young age, especially where they have made it clear to their parents that it is their wish to transition, has shown very good results. But it is most important for the child to know that however they experience their gender, male, female or not so specific, they are loved and supported in their experience. It is important for all of us to know that our children are safe in our school yards and not subject to violence and brutality at the hands of adults or other children, no matter what their gender experience or expression.
How early can a child know their gender identity? You only have to ask yourself how early you knew your own gender identity. Some folks say they never really felt sure, others say they have always been quite sure. Gender identity and the experience of it is as a much a part of the human experience and as subject to variation as hair color, eye color, skin tone, cranial facial asymmetry and other traits found in the species. |
