That sounds ridiculously extreme, although I guess the devil may be in the details of the case...

I'm not sure what to think about the government taking "dating" away from citizens.
If the government were to legitimately have such a power, it would seem more intelligent to apply this to repeat offender SPOUSE ABUSERS...

Other than the theft of a car, if I were king he wouldn't have been charged with anything. Except maybe stupidity cause I doubt either of them has any education to speak of, and jobs are hard enough to get.

I don't know about legal permission.

But the traditional way of getting permission from the girl's father or another guardian was a good idea, IMO.

My fiance has told me she won't marry me until I ask formal permission from her parents.

It think that shows tremendous self-respect and respect for family on her part.
