Tulsa Race Massacre event canceled — after DHS warned of white supremacist attacks: report

Quote:
On Thursday, KFOR news reported that the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission has canceled the "Remember & Rise" event marking the 100th anniversary of the infamous race riot that destroyed "Black Wall Street" in Tulsa, Oklahoma — following warnings from the Department of Homeland Security that the event could be a target for white supremacist terrorists.

The event was to be headlined by a number of prominent figures including John Legend and Stacey Abrams.

"Due to unexpected circumstances with entertainers and speakers, the Centennial Commission is unable to fulfill our high expectations for Monday afternoon's commemoration event and has determined not to move forward with the event at this time," said the commission in an official statement. "We have hopes to reschedule later in this 100th commemorative year. We apologize for the disappointment and any inconvenience caused to ticket holders; if rescheduled ticket holders will be notified first."

"In a memo, DHS says they haven't seen any credible threats, but 'the current Homeland threat environment remains heightened,'" continued the report. "It also says white supremacists, 'historically have used simple tactics, such as vehicle ramming, small arms, edged weapons, and rudimentary explosive devices to target individuals perceived as having ideologically opposing views, racial minorities, or law enforcement at mass gatherings or crowded public spaces.'"

President Joe Biden will reportedly still travel to the area for a planned event, and a separate candlelight vigil is still set to happen.

Earlier this month, survivors of the massacre traveled to Washington and urged Congress to formally acknowledge their plight.
never thought I'd see fascism get this bad in America.

Yeah I would say these authorities predict they may have another riot on their hands. So they don't want people to gather. And I don't blame them

Do you have any concept of what "no evidence" means? Probably not.

Let's apply the same standard of authorities don't want people to gather to the waves of BLM rallies across the nation that led to violent riots. Democrat politicians encouraged this thuggery but now the white supremacy boogie man makes it too dangerous to incite another race riot in Tulsa.

More likely state and local authorities made it clear they weren't going to allow Tulsa to become another Portland.

And now the TRUTH!...

Event Commemorating Tulsa Race Massacre Canceled After Survivors Demand $1 Million Each to Appear

Quote:
An event to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre was suddenly canceled after the three surviving victims demanded $1 million to appear and $50 million donated to a reparations fund.

Singer John Legend was to host the event with the keynote address given by Georgia race activist Stacey Abrams. Other events associated with the commemoration will proceed as scheduled and Joe Biden will be in Tulsa on Tuesday.

Attorneys representing the survivors had originally agreed to a $100,000 appearance fee for each survivor and $2 million in reparations. Then, suddenly, attorneys upped the appearance fee to $1 million and seed money for the reparations commission demand to $50 million.

State Sen. Kevin Matthews, who chairs the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, said, “We raised the money and we were excited the survivors were going to accept these gifts,” Matthews said Friday. “Unfortunately, on Sunday they reached out and increased the amount of the $100,000-per-survivor gifts to $1 million, and instead of $2 million, they asked for $50 million – $50 million – in seed money. We could not respond to those demands.”

Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons has a different perception of what happened.

“After months of zero communication and under immense pressure that John Legend and Stacey Abrams may no longer participate if the survivors were not centered, a meeting was scheduled for Saturday,” Solomon-Simmons told the AP.

“Immediately following that call, our legal team submitted a list of seven requests to ensure the survivors’ participation with the commission’s scheduled events.”

According to the Daily Mail, the crux of the problem is that there are two different commissions set up to commemorate the event.

Quote:
Disagreements among black leaders in Tulsa over the handling of commemoration events and millions of dollars in donations have led to two disparate groups planning separate slates of events marking the massacre’s 100-year anniversary.

In addition to the Centennial Commission, the Black Wall Street Legacy Festival has scheduled a series of events over the next several days, and they will continue as planned.

Solomon-Simmons is associated with the Legacy Festival, along with City Councilwoman Vanessa Hall-Harper and Tiffany Crutcher, the twin sister of Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man who was shot and killed by a Tulsa police officer in 2016.
In the middle of this are the survivors: Viola Fletcher, 107; her brother Hughes Van Ellis, 100; and Lessie Benningfield Randle, 106. They have been silent during the dispute, allowing their lawyer to do all the talking.

Certainly, the massacre in Tulsa, a century ago, should not be forgotten.

But neither should it be brought up for the primary purpose of inciting anger, and promoting racial divisiveness.

Why would it bring anger? The only divisiveness is people who do not wish to hear the truth.

It could promote an Us versus Them attitude, as regarding blacks and whites.

An analogue might be the recounting of a Civil War battle: If it is done in a purely historical context, it should be no problem--after all, it is a part of our history--but if it is done to stir emotions (perhaps showing how the losing side was massacred, even after it attempted to surrender), it certainly could create anger and divisiveness.
