Default Missouri - State Mandated Sexual Assault

Missouri's Department of Health has mandated a medically unnecessary pelvic exam of women seeking abortion that in any other state would be prosecuted as sexual assault.

I highly recommend watching this entire segment of the Rachel Maddow show that covers this issue in Missouri as it related to the last remaining abortion clinic. If you can't watch the entire thing then pick it up at about the nine minute mark.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/...on-61462597599

Or you can read the following:

Quote:
"State-Sanctioned Sexual Assault" is Missouri’s Latest Attack on Abortion Access

Missouri is continuously attempting to eviscerate legal abortion access in the state despite the temporary non-closure of their last clinic providing such services, a Planned Parenthood in St. Louis. How are they doing this, exactly? Through a series of legal requirements aimed at making the process of getting an abortion as difficult and uncomfortable as possible. The latest addition to this targeted attack on reproductive rights is a mandatory, a.k.a nonconsensual, pelvic exam to be given to every patient before the 72-hour waiting period conditional for an abortion in Missouri. The timing of these invasive and medically unnecessary examinations are deliberately intended to traumatize those seeking to end their pregnancy right before a three-day-long "punitive" waiting period, in which the government forces women to take time to reconsider what is already, for many, an incredibly difficult decision.

What's telling about the requirement imposed on the sole surviving clinic in the state is that it isn't even a result of the so-called moral or ideological claims attached to the pro-life movement, but rather the product of the increasingly political licensing battle with the clinic itself as Missouri's government attempts to make abortion inaccessible statewide. On May 22, Planned Parenthood agreed to comply with state regulations enforcing pelvic exams, which Missouri’s health department claims “could increase the safety of the procedure,” according to The Mercury. Could.

On the other hand, Dr. Amy Addante, an actual physician in the St. Louis clinic that provides abortions tweeted on June 3, that she “was forced by the state of Missouri to perform an unnecessary pelvic exam on a patient...She is heartbroken over her situation, and I was forced to do an invasive, uncomfortable exam. It broke me as a physician to do this to her.”

Let’s be clear about exactly what’s happening here. Dr. Colleen McNicholas, an obstetrician at the St. Louis Planned Parenthood chapter, puts it best, telling Rachel Maddow that “we either have to ask patients to subject themselves to a state-sanctioned, essentially, sexual assault, or they can’t have an abortion here in Missouri.” This ultimatum set by the government requires that women, who often have histories of trauma and assault, go through examinations that could potentially retraumatize or trigger them. It also forces doctors to knowingly and unwillingly violate their patients in order to be able to provide their services.

Let's also be clear that pelvic exams are being conducted when there's a medical necessity by the clinic and they occur on the day of the abortion. These mandated earlier exams are completely unnecessary from a medical perspective.

In any other state where a doctor inserts their fingers or instruments into a woman's virginal passage without a clear medical purpose it's considered to be sexual assault and they're arrested but in Missouri it's being mandated by the state.

This takes the Missouri GOP into uncharted waters where now they're mandating sexual assault against women that would violate state laws throughout the rest of the United States.

This doctor beats all transgenders for the title of "Grand Drama Queen...

A "pelvic exam" is intrusive, but the procedure performed AFTER the pelvic exam, where a vacuum is inserted into the vagina to suction and rip apart a baby in a bloody and vile display?...That's A-OK...

If abortions were performed with some sort or lazer pointed at the womb and the baby inside was turned into dust I could see abortions whining over an additional intrusive procedure. Also the vast majority of abortions are performed for no medical purpose. They are performed as a means of birth control and nothing more. So Rachael Madcow can save her false hysterics for other abortion supporting scum.

You realize "consent" plays a huge part in that, right?

The argument you just pulled is like saying "Well, she allowed me to stick my fingers in her vagina, so if I insist on shoving my dick in there then there must be nothing wrong with that (regardless of what she actually says / wants)"

Is it medically necessary? No.
Should it be a decision left between the doctor and the patient? Yes.

Does the right pretend to be about letting businesses operate without government interference, but then they shove governmental interference in a vagina when it suits their purpose?
Yes.

Without surprise, nobody is even trying to address these points.

Actually, the opposite...Consenting to sticking appliances up the wazoo and ripping fleash and bone without gynecologically seeing that it's safe for the woman, first, sounds like downright medical malpractice...

Also noticeable is the fact that you used the scenario of a dick in a vagina when the topic is the destruction of that act...

Thanks, doctor!...I'm guessing those hundreds of women who've died on the abortion table over the years night want to comeback and tell you they like the idea a LOT more now...

When it comes to DEATH, yes...

This isn't a colonoscopy or a pap smear...This is the murder of an unborn child with a heartbeat and everything!!!..."The Right" already thought this was the law when "killing is illegal" first went on the books a couple hundred years ago...

Can anybody on the right show ANY MEDICAL STUDY which documents the need for an invasive pelvic exam before an abortion?

It would be a patient's right to specify that.
There are people who refuse blood transfusions even when needed.

What medical basis do you make that conclusion on?
Don't you think it would best to let the experts weigh in on such things?
And if it were truly that needed, why don't doctors simply mandate it all on their own?

Let's face facts.
This legislation has absolutely no medical basis.
You are more than welcome to present any doctor assessments which claim it's actually necessary or recommended in general, but I hope you already recognize that it would be a wasted effort. This legislation was NOT created out of medical need.

Way to avoid the point...

Statistically speaking, women are more likely to die in child birth than in an abortion procedure.

Moreover, can you document that the required procedure discussed in this thread would have changed any of those situations?

When Obamacare starts dictating medical procedures, then we'll talk.
Until then, apples and oranges.

You talk of "death" but then you show no medical need for the procedure.

I can show you more solid statistics about death from obesity and other factors than you can regarding abortion and an absence of a pelvic exam.

And this is the real problem.
You guys don't like the procedure they want to do after this one, so you try to shove all sorts of procedures and requirements which have no medical necessity into the mix.

Let's review, shall we?
1) Pelvic exams are conducted when there is a medical necessity and mandating the exam is unnecessary from a medical perspective.
I see no reply from you on this point before the post you just made.

2) A doctor inserting fingers or instruments into a vaginal passage without clear medical purpose is sexual assault.
I see no reply from you on this point.

What you stated earlier I took as more sarcastic than anything else.
If a patient demands that her medical procedure be done with all "metric" instruments and no "English unit" instruments, that is the patient's right.

If a patient's choices put them at risk, then it's the doctor's obligation to advise on the risk. It's also the doctor's prerogative to refuse to conduct the procedure.

The state mandating a pelvic invasive procedure has absolutely no evidence showing why it should be a requirement.

Two things I don't do is watch posted random 20 minute videos or anything Maddow.

It does seem to me however that if you're going to yank something out of a confined space you're probably going to invade that space.

That argument is like saying "Well, she allowed me to stick my fingers in her vagina, so if I insist on shoving my dick in there then there must be nothing wrong with that (regardless of what she actually says / wants)"

The fact that she consents to one "invasion" does not intelligibly justify a second invasion ordered by the state.

And still, nobody can point to any medical study which justifies mandating this...
Worse, nobody on the right is even trying.

What is wrong with you? You are implying that doctors, specifically OBGYN's, are looking for opportunities to molest women. I don't know if you have ever attended an OBGYN exam, but I have with my wife during her pregnancy's and can tell you that a pelvic exam is NORMAL. And not once did the doctor attempt to molest her. We are talking about professionals that have spent years in college and residency to obtain their licence. Why would they risk that for something like that?

If this is the best argument you can come up with, you have obviously lost this debate. Millions of women visit their OB doctor every year and a vast majority of them do it without be sexually molested. And those that do experience an assault, generally report the assault to local authorities.
