Post Re: What’s changed in Britain since same-sex marriage?

The article is mostly useless. It might as well be titled "What has happened since July 2013" as it provides no intelligent causal link from same-sex marriage to the things it notes.

And the funny thing is the title even clearly avoids presenting it as a causal relationship.
But the actual content / conclusion of the article?

Furthermore, the clearest repudiation of many of the article's insinuations is in the U.S. For example, the false pretense regarding "religious freedom" degradation being caused by gay marriage.
Gay marriage has been legal in Massachusetts for over 13 years. Can anybody point to a pastor forced to perform a gay marriage?
Likewise, when interracial marriage was recognized as a right, pastors were also not forced to marry interracial couples.

The real issue at hand are the fundamental religious freedoms in the specific country in question itself. And this varies from country to country.
Great Britain is not the U.S. when it comes to protecting religious freedoms. And vice versa...
Likewise, Great Britain is not Australia.
An article trying to blindly allege causal effects while ignoring different governmental legal landscapes?

I don't think anyone is going to be surprised that would be your take on it ...

It's funny you say that, because it's absolutely irrelevant in the scope of things ... because it bodes no better if a.) its causal, or b.) it's just another example in the string of anything-goes failures of freedoms and ethical/moral standards, either way.

Only someone on the far left, who is blind to reality, would think religious freedom hasn't been under attack in the U.S. in recent years.

Nor is anybody surprised with your fixation on the issue of gays...

Then why did the article put it forth as causal?
If it's truly no better, then why did the article make a point of doing exactly that?

And of course it's relevant as many will be supportive of gay marriage but not supportive of many of the examples in the article. Seen as completely separate issues without any causal effects.
For you, it's a list of things you dislike.
For others, gay marriage doesn't belong on that list.

There you go again moving the boundaries.
I talked about the false pretense regarding "religious freedom" degradation being caused by gay marriage.

And without surprise, you want to generalize the issue and talk about generic claims of religious freedom attack.

I don't know if I have ever mentioned this on this forum or not, but I do know I brought it up somewhere. Several years ago in my home town downtown residents and small business kept finding porno stashed and thrown away in places it was for sure people would find them. Like sitting the trashcan on the nasty magazines about half way so it would be visible when you walked up to the trash can or the dumpster instead of being thrown into the can or hidden in the trash. Obviously the person was intentionally making it so others would see it. This went on for many months, it got to be kinda a joke downtown, I really thought there was several kids doing it or something. Finally the police, working diligently fighting crime, caught the guy on a business cam. The police ID'd him soon as they seen the video. He was the senior Pastor at a downtown church. About half of his sermons were against porn. Weird, huh?

Are you capable of weighing in on a thread about gays without accusing of someone of a fixation on gays? Apparently not. The hilarious thing is that it's something you should have no reservation discussing and more importantly you should WELCOME discussion on these sort of topics. But I'm not surprised at your hypocrisy.

Again, you've already been explained it's all part of a trend. No one here has argued it's DIRECTLY causal, like A CAUSED B.

So did you loose parishioners over that? What did the police SAY when they ID'ed you?

This is a dumb claim that's easily proven false.
There are tons of threads where that happens.
It probably goes over your head, but that comment was a parallel of one of your preceding snide comments on another thread...

This is what's called a "strawman argument" in which Joe tries to misrepresent my position.
I DO welcome GOOD discussions.
As I already explained, this article is pure crap.

Yet again, YOUR ARTICLE presents it as a causal relationship.
It argues that people should vote AGAINST gay marriage, because of feigned consequences.

Yet again, you're trying to reframe somebody else's argument.

There's an article I remember talking about an anti-gay group that had a stash of gay porn "for research".

A lot of people fixate on a subject because of Freudian problems they have on the subject.

lol Do you really think people here are so stupid they don't understand that comment was about your PROPENSITY toward doing that?

And here's where you nitpick on a pointless quibble, in order to avoid discussing the broader issues. Right on schedule. As has already been explained, it doesn't matter whether or not it's causal. Because it bodes no better for you if it's causal or part of the overall trend.

Guess this means you may secretly be a right-wing conservative.
