Yeah, it sucks that the USA once had slavery. Over 100 years ago.
Are reparations fair now?
There isn't a single former slave or slave owner alive today.
My family immigrated to the USA long after slavery ceased to exist.
Not my responsibility to pay for the transgressions of the past.

all I can tell them is good luck with that. And we should all be glad it was Lincoln who freed the slaves and not Daenerys Targaryen

I would quibble and say that the person that owned that slave should be the one paying the slave...
Beyond that, obviously I'm in agreement.

Demanding compensation for something you didn't suffer through from people who aren't responsible for that past suffering...

I know a white man who drilled for oil for a living.

He took a group of drillers to South Africa for a 2 year gig. One of them was a black guy. He was kind of excited as the day came to go to his "homeland".

By the end of the first year, he was in the local pub proposing a "toast" to slavery. When questioned about that, he would reply, "thank good those muslim slavers stole my family and sold them to the white slave trade for export to America, and I didn't have to grow up in this sh1thole". "I got educated and had oportunity in America I would have never had here".

I think that says alot about slavery in America.

Kind of lets the wind out of the sails doesn't it?

Mr. Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the Confederate states, it didn't free slaves in the Union states (and yes, there were Union states that had slavery).
I can understand why you don't know that since you seem to like the fiction of Ms Targaryen probably almost as much as you like the fiction of Mr Lincoln.
