Side note - Extra, EXTRA points go to her family...Instead of immediately running to the defense of their daughter in an attempt to shield bad behavior, they readily admit to the resolution and went so far as to THANK the police for their investigation AND apologize to the community for the actions of their family member...That's a very intelligent family understanding facts over a kneejerk, emotional response...I feel MUCH more sorry for them than I do her...

You know, I read the original story yesterday and something didn't sit right with me about it. I actually thought, 'this was another fake setup'. Then I read she had 3rd degree burns and thought maybe someone wouldn't do that to themselves after all. But apparently the stupid is strong in some people.

If this was faked, then the woman is mentally ill and still an object of compassion.

How do you know that she's mentally ill?? It's entirely possible that she's just plain stupid. Maybe she was going to set her clothes on fire and was counting on being able to put them out before she got hurt, but wasn't able to. That wouldn't be mentally ill, that would be stupid.

If they wanted to use this as a way to attack the KKK, they might. She just might be dumb enough to think that setting her clothes on fire and then claiming it was a racist attack was a good idea, since in her mind she was thinking that she could extinguish the flames before she got hurt. Or she might be nuttier than a hazelnut farm. We don't have enough information to arrive at either conclusion with any level of certainty.
