I've experienced true racists... my grandmother, raised in 'Lanta, and my father Jersey born and bred, were some of the worst, most likely because they didn't guard themselves around me.

Painting attitudes from 60 years ago on todays people is what keeps racial tensions high.
Atlanta may (or not ) be like Houston and some other big cities in that it is such a fast paced multi cultural place that if you keep yourself in a certain level of people you don't notice there is much prejudice, and perhaps there is less than smaller places. But out in suburbia surrounding Atlanta yes there are places that are very prejudiced specifically against black people. That you choose not to believe that is weird to me. Or maybe you don't get around rednecks much.

Fayetteville GA, Stockbridge GA, Marietta GA, Houston TX, Tumbal TX, all have been visited with regularity. And yes, several members of my family are 'redneck'. I'm sure that racism does exist in limited pockets.

But you used a mighty big paintbrush, when you said 'the south' and that is what angers me. That just continues a false impression that is helping to cause more strife in this country.

Just put the damn paintbrush away.

While we have the typical haters portray Georgia (and the south) as racist for a neighbor making sure his neighborhood isn't infiltrated with crime, may I remind you that this is the exact same procedure done with the Cambridge, Mass. Police department and Obama's friend, Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., where Gates was arrested for breaking into a home he couldn't prove was his at the time...

So why does the Georgia (and the south) get this bullsh*t repeat of stereotyping...

A) Based on one story?

B) when the same thing happened in FRIGGIN' MASSACHUSETTS?!?!?!...

Well because in Mass we could bash the Police and in the most recent we could bash the South.

What's the harm? They need to be put into their place...

Georgia is prejudiced. Take my word for it or go see for yourself. Get in a group of whites and if someone says the n word no one will bat an eye. Go to some smaller towns and have coffee at a local hang out. If there is a black person working there some will give them the evil eye or ask the manager to the side why they have to hire "them". Yes happens all the time. Not the whole state but yeah.
I resent being called a hater, I don't hate many things or people.
Tell it like it is sometimes and the mirror really goofs people up sometimes though.

No racists exist in the North. Don't you remember the civil war?

Never lived in GA, so I can't say if there's a lot of prejudice there. But I do agree with Cnredd in that it exists in every state, not just the south. Southern states do seem to bear the brunt of this stereotype more than other places, perhaps more than they should. But I think there are other places that bear the brunt of other stereotypes as well. Is every New Yorker rude? Are all people from New 'Jowsy' like the show Jersey Shore? Is it fair that many people stereotype people from San Francisco as always liberal and couter-cultural to an extreme? It seems people tend to do that with lots of places.
