Men and women don't have the same rights. And that's the issue. Sexuality isn't even relevant.

And no one gives a **** if you "accept" someone elses sexuality.

The issue has become a conservative litmus test, even more so than abortion.
If you're sick of it and think it's "unimportant", then you and your ilk should drop it. It's not us who keep bringing it up, actually.

I've posted this before, but it bears repeating.

Marriage should be a religious institution (which is what it began as).
Unions for all instead.

Why? What relevance does it have?

So then heterosexual couples who, say are atheists and go to city-hall will not be married and government should not issue marriage licenses?

No doubt because you are incapable of putting forth a rational or relevant opposition and are frustrated by not prevailing.

Except when it comes to marriage.

sure there are if they are not allowed to marry.

That is your uninformed opinion, clearly based more on bigotry than intelligent reasoning.

Of course it can as equal rights for everyone else.

I agree. Get the govt out of marriage altogether.

That is fine, you can agree, but even so, it is far better in a debate if you can present your own argument and offer reasons for it.

I do not necessarily agree with that. I agree that government should not determine who can get married to whom, but "marriage" by now, and I mean the legal aspects, is so entrenched in society that replacing it with any other designation would only create confusion and problems. Everyone knows what rights, benefits and privileges marriage offers, the task is to ensure that one group can not deny them to another that they do not like.

Don't need to replace it with anything. If people want to enter legal contracts with one another to share property, designate next of kin, designate beneficiaries, designate medical proxies, etc, they can do that now and could do that with the removal of marriage from government purview.
