IP, keep in mind that this is private property and while it has to conform to some of what you're talking about since it's publically accessible, they still have the right to make and enforce thier own rules. I think that the guard was being an idiot, but if what he did was simply enforcing the rules set down by the owners of the property, then he's doing his job.

Go into any grocery store and you'll see a sign that basically says that they can throw you out/deny you service for any reason whatsoever. They can throw you out for wearing an "I love Rush" t-shirt or being a guy wearing a sparkly g-string, it's THEIR call, not yours, mine or anyone elses and they don't have to actually tell you why you got tossed (in fact, I think that it's in thier best interest to not say anything).

I agree with you if you are taking a property rights stance. However, I don't think that Legacy Investments (or whoever now owns the actual real estate interest in Cameron Village) owns the sidewalks and the roads. Cameron Village isn't like a mall...it's rows of shops on city run streets with occasional seating by bus stops and facing the streets. Your argument, valid as it is, would depend on whether the couple were on one of those city streets or at some seating in an establishment.

And I fully agree with you when it comes to private establishments.

Who said anything about a private establishment? As I understood it, the people in question were not in a private establishment. If they were, of COURSE they have the right to make anyone leave their establishment for any reason at any time, as far as I'm concerned. I don't give a **** if a store tells people to leave because they don't like brunettes. But that is completely separate to what you asked.
