Good point, bossfan; I was afraid to broach the subject of that verse.
(1Jn 3:24 ). But I just attended a study that brought out the meaning of spirit a little more clearly to me.
So if I seek (read and pray) him, he will send or fill me with the Holy Spirit. And I think that is what gives me my conscience. But I think it feels like more than conscience. People would call it a sensitivity maybe.
Just thinking out loud.

I really love it that you would call it a sensitivity, saltwn. Sometimes I think that calling it conscience is deceiving, even to Christians, because it gives the impression that whatever we feel we are "hearing" on the inside is coming from God. For that to be true, God has to be there first!

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
~ Matthew 6.21

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
~ Psalm 1:1-3

To be able to hear God speaking to us in our conscience, what you call a sensitivity, we need to know God and that comes from having a relationship with Him. We know God by knowing His Word....and obeying it. That is when He abides in us and we in Him.

One thing 1st John 4 does is explain the anti Christ. 4:1-6

One of my favorite verses, though, is 1Jn 4:7.
Quote:
My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life. We are now God's children, and we know him.
As I have stated, for me, 1st John is first and foremost a love letter:
Quote:
We love because God loved us first. 4:19

The commandment that God has given us is: "Love God and love each other!" 4:21
