Even if he KNEW that those crosses were vandalism (and he only speculated because, as we found out, the crosses were NOT an act of vandalism), he STILL had no authority to physically do anything...He could've EASILY asked administration what the story was with the crosses...He could've EASILY got to the bottom of it instead of saying "I don't know if it's vandalism or not, so I'll say it is and respond in kind."...

Is that really the way you think ANYBODY, let alone a student, should act?...Everytime they see something that may or may not be vandalism, they should immediately destroy it?...

I really wish that you would read the thread before ranting at people.

in Post #3 I said, "And he certainly should have sought more information first. "

Does that answer your question?

That's crap...

A public citizen has NO RIGHT to remove that display whether he believed it was vandalism or not...

It's not his responsibility and he has no authority...

AND you followed your answer with a "But"...Which validates his actions by blaming others which, in your mind, CAUSED him to become a vandal himself...

Look at the video again...Watch him go in between rows and, with both hands, pull the crosses out and leave them lying scattered...

Is that your definition of "removing vandalism"?...

Saying what he SHOULD'VE done does not have anything to do with your assumptions (your words)...

Quote:
I think that he was right that the "Pointers for Life" should have identified that they were sponsoring the display. Otherwise how is one to know that the display itself is not vandalism?
Quote:
All of which does not change the fact that any student or university employee who was not affiliated with either the sponsor or with the issuance of permits had no way of knowing that it was not an act of vandalism.
Quote:
And it is not out of line to assume that it is vandalism until there is evidence presented to show that it isn't.
No...

No, no, no, and a thousand more times, no...

THREE times you've actually came out and said what I've called against...

Saying something is vandalism until proven it's not is right up there with "guilty until proven innocent"...

And you know that he was not a University employee, how again??

I say he should have sought further information and they should have identified their "art" as art. Culpability on both sides.

As the video shows, he identified himself as a sophomore student...NOT an employee...(42 seconds into the video)...

When I was a sophomore student, I was also an employee.

I'd also like to point out 1:20 of the video which has the guy saying to A POLICE OFFICER...

...and I quote...

"You're going to arrest me for doing my freedom of speech when you're going to let them do theirs?"...

Then PLEASE LISTEN to the video's following statement the man made...

Quote:
I don't CARE if they have the university's approval.
Right then and there is the point where King ACKNOWLEDGES that the display was NOT vandalism...

..and then CONTINUES to pull the crosses out of the ground...

Now if you won't give up the lame assertion that the groups culpible for his actions, then I can't help ya...Even after he knows the scoop, he kept on going...

See Now you have given me something upon which to reassess my point of view. I had trouble understanding what was being said and missed that sentence.

So, yes, he was totally out of line.

And they still should have had a sign up.

Less savings means less investments; an economy that does not save or invest will consume all of its resources and eventually end up bankrupt.-David Saied

This is an awkward case but clearly the "gentleman" was wrong to "assume" vandalism and take action. These cross displays are common practice and his actions were..well...sophomoric.
