Let me see, we are planning on making it mandatory that women MUST view the procedure because it is an optional procedure? We don't require this for gastric by-pass, removal of cancerous tumors caused by smoking, liver transplants brought on by excessive alcohol abuse, or the like. I think it's another case of "I simply don't like it so I want to be as difficult about it as possible.".

The goal of such an action is NOT information, it's the limitation of the abortion procedure. Let's be honest about it. If you want to limit a persons desire to have an abortion, then be honest in your advocacy. Not only be honest in your advocacy, but be equal in your application of the principle. If a woman has to 'watch' the procedure, then everyone who has ANY medical procedure performed must 'watch' the procedure.

I personally think it's a silly idea. If you want to reduce the rate of abortions in this country address the root of the issue. 1) Lack of REAL sex education. 2) Lack of REAL support for single mothers.

As far as making the ultrasound optional, it's already optional. The women have the right to see it if they so desire. Why should we put one more unenforceable mandate on our medical professionals?

They just ask them to be smart, truthful, honest, and show a modicum of good sense." Ann Richards, Former Texas Governor

It's just another way of asserting this absurd notion that the poor little woman doesn't know what she is doing so we have to force her to go through extra steps to make a decision. After all, women can't be trusted to be informed about their own bodies.
