While your suggestion has merit, I doubt we could ever find enough agreement to implement it. I would suggest that we simply repeal the 17th Amendment to put the appointment of Senators back to the State Legislature were it belongs. The most profound affect of this would be that the power of the parties would be greatly diminished. Instead of our Senator Sherrod Brown getting his marching orders from Chuch Schumer, he would have to vote on issues as the Ohio Legislature demands or face replacement. This would greatly reduce the influence that Schumer and McConnell now have.
