I'm not questioning whether or not it IS a religion. Anything can be claimed to be a religion if that is the person's belief system.

Personally, I would put it more in the category of a philosophy; the same way I would classify Buddhism.

I agree, as a note, that it is unwise for them to ban Scientology. If nothing else, it would be a political negative for them on the global scale.
