Because we, in America, do not live by mob rule. We respect the rights of the individuals. Abortion isn't the only issue that the Supreme Court had "force on the country". A majority in the south still wanted segregation but that got shot down by the Supreme Court.
As for a steady stream of lies and distortions, you may wish to look at the pro-life camp for that. Doctored photos, false studies linking breast cancer to abortion, on and on and on. Not to mention the violence perpetrated by your extremists who think that blowing up clinics or killing doctors is justifiable.
I mean, if most of America doesn't want abortion - as its detractors always claim - why can't it win at the ballot box?
