Whether Hassan is or isn't more intelligent than Amir isn't the point. Amir thinks Hassan is more intelligent. Remember in Ch. 4 Amir says he took to reading Hassan less challenging things. He stopped reading him riddles when he realized Hassan was far better at solving them.
