This isn't "I'm sorry", this is "I'm sorry that the rest of you aren't a bigoted as I am and I'm sorry I got caught".
The jury is still out about how I feel about the whole gay rights issue, but hateful rhetoric is hateful rhetoric. I look at a clergyman as a leader of people in the same way as a teacher or parent is leading children. You are teaching the word of God and how to relate to your brother humans. You must be very careful what you say around children. They must learn in increments small enough for their brain to take in. Often they see things in much more black and white terms than adults. Setting an example is even more beneficial or detrimental to a mind in the process of molding. Baby Christians or people searching for answers to spiritual questions are easily mislead by a careless word. They are also distracted by the example set by people in authority.
This man should (and hopefully he does) pray that his ego will take a back seat in this issue. For if he listens to God, he will hear nothing about branding, but all about love.
