Now if one were to say, "Jamesrage, because you use racist and sexist pejoratives, it therefore follows that all white males are ignorant garbage"... then the person saying that would, themselves, sound like ignorant garbage.
People who rely on racial and gender stereotypes to inform their views of life are ignorant. It's as simple as that.
Because of their willful ignorance, they are also harmful to society at large, which makes them garbage, in my opinion.

So, you seem to be asserting a moral preference for the act of evaluating the worth of another person from a position of assumed personal superiority, and I might add, doing so with a stunning lack of humor, to the casual conversational use of mild stereotypes.
I fear that I disagree. Probably because I've know people who positively dripped with stereotypical opinions, and yet performed in a manner that showed compassion and consideration, which do not arise naturally from a sense of great superiority.
Also, one should be aware that much of one's own thought is based firmly in prejudice and stereotypes. This is how the human mind works. We eat apples with confidence because we have a stereotypical belief that they are all safe to eat.
We think of rodents as foul disease carriers, even though most rodents are at least as clean a most people, and in fact groom compulsively.
Language only works because we make prejudiced assumptions about what the sounds another person is making mean.
And then there is politics. If one wishes to look there for examples of bigoted, stereotypical, hate speech, why, examples abound.

The thing is, OWS is just sexier, flat out more interesting from a media point of view- younger, more energetic, more colorful, more flamboyant- than a bunch of conventional-looking, obese middle-aged white teabaggers "protesting" from aluminum lawn chairs.
Anyway, if one wants to see a real "unlicensed carnival sideshow", I'd suggest one look at the current crop of Republican presidential hopefuls.

(Unless they were Irishmen living in the North, or Chinese living in the West. Those slaves had a long way to go.)

Since they can't force the rest of us to stop celebrating it, they're trying to prevail upon us to call it an "Autumn Festival" or some such garbage.
It's the Baptists and the Evangelicals; Catholics and mainline Protestants are still cool with Halloween.
