Ever heard of obsessive/compulsive disorder? That is what religion falls prey to sometimes. People latch onto a thought or a set of verse and make it their life's mission.
If you want to know what Christianity is all about, read Luke, John and Acts in the New Testament. That is what modern day Christianity is mostly based on.
