Hell, 2 months in India and I was picking up the local dialect. Just key words and phrases, but that's how it starts. How could you possibly be immersed in a culture and not pick up their language?

I've been in LA for two years and I speak quite a bit of spanish already. There isn't a sign I can't read and if I run across someone who doesn't speak English (a frequent occurrence here) I am able to get by pretty well with them.
I agree, I think its bull**** that he doesn't speak any English.
