In a small boat one should never attempt to go out of the bay because of the current drag.
Once me and some friends were on the beach in the SF Bay. We had his dads life raft with a sail and lucky to have 4 paddles.
We launched off the two of us. And about an hour later noticed we were headed for the Bridge.
We started to paddle towards the shore, it was a complete struggle and we lost one oar.
As were being pulled by the out going tide, we made no head way and were worn out.
Both of us being around 15 years of age. Then to our rescue came the Coast Guard,
as his father who lost sight of us and knowing about the tides went to a phone on the beach and called for help.
We got a great ride on the small Coast Guard vessel back to our starting point.
But they knifed the raft to pull it from the water. And as my friend said when they did it he got one good spanking right on the beach.
And we both lost our allowance which then went to pay for another raft.
