I'm not entirely sure, but since they have made such a concerted effort to join the EU the past few years, they must think there are some pro's to being part of that club. Exactly how it impacts "pointing guns at Libya", I don't know.

Does there necessarily need to be a personal benefit before one gets involved in something?
For example, I don't see any benefit for me to interrupt some thug raping a woman, but if I saw it happening, I'd damn sure get involved to end it.
