dga: Maybe that's why my daughter asked me what it meant to be gay when she was 6 or so, . I get notices from her school on other classes, that I might object to their teachings like say sex-ed, where they give me the option of her attending or not. I would not be against this topic being covered in school, as long as I am notified.
I would be worried about them teaching her about sex. That is I would be very involved-maybe even attend one of the classes (to keep from embarrassing an older kid-I might attend one he was not in). Talk over any literature they give him or her.
They gave my son condom advise and a brochure when he was 10 or 11. I went over it with him and that led to a discussion of AIDS and other diseases.
Be involved, that's the best you can do. That way you don't have to rely on hearsay to know what's going on at school.
