The values and interests of his constituents have much to do with societal morals and family values. As a member of the house he makes important decisions regarding what is important to his constituents, what isn't, what social programs are necessary, which aren't, all with the ultimate intention of protecting the welfare of those in his district.

Perhaps you're mixing up his actual behavior with the actual wrongdoing for which he is punishing himself. There's nothing actually "wrong" with looking for dates on Craig's list. Nothing wrong with flirting. Nothing inherently wrong with looking for sex.

There is something wrong with doing all that when you have a wife and kid and a marital agreement. There is something wrong with being a liar and a bad father and a bad husband.

His integrity is damaged. Most folks don't want someone lacking in integrity representing the best interests of the people. You have to work really hard to pretend you don't understand that.
