You can argue about abortion in general all day long. I don't think there's any question partial birth abortion should be a federal crime not allowed except in the instance that the mother's life is in danger. But I would allow leeway for the attending physician in case the mother's quality of life (car accident or fast growing cancer comes to mind), is in question. Then I would put the decision squarely upon the doctor's shoulders. Maybe there should be a stipulation that he will make every effort to seek the opinions and feelings of all interested family and consider any documents she (mother) may have prepared previously. But he/she (attending doctor) is the only person qualified to make a health/life/death decision in the final analysis.
This ploy of not leaving room for endangering the mother that was included in a bill passed awhile back is bullowney! (bull + bologna) It was just a political move to be able to bring the issue back to the table for some political reasons.
Let's have some real legislation on the matter and (brain fart alert!) why don't we ask doctors to give their thoughts on the matter to congress so they (congress) can make a more informed decision? Doctors on both sides of the isle.
I think this one issue could be a uniting factor in the abortion debate. And it's such a volatile issue, we need some point of compromise from both sides.
