Re: Who Is A True Jew?
There is no True Jew, or at least no existing examples of the Jewish peoples found in the Holy Scriptures of national Israel. They had their kingdom taken away from them when they killed God's Son---Matthew 21:33-46. And the Jewish leaders understood the parable was about them---Matthew 21:45. There are still citizens of Israel, but only in a "spiritual sense", as Jesus now sets on the throne of this spiritual nation--Acts 2:29-36. For Christ made prophecy of the destruction and death of "physical Israel" in Matthew 24: 4-34. And this prophecy came true in 70 AD and confirmed also the prophecy of Daniel, concerning the "abomination of desolation". Jesus describes the Roman army surrounding Jerusalem in the gospel of Luke, talking about the same prophecy of Christ (Luke 21:20). But here on earth this kingdom is known as the Christian church, and as a citizen of this kingdom one indeed becomes an adopted heir of the promise and becomes the seed of Abraham---Gal. 2:29.
The scriptures declare there is no salvation outside of Christ. Only through Jesus can men be saved--Acts 4:12. Jesus is the way, the only way--John 14:6. There is no special favor toward physical Israel, with the exception they were to be offered salvation first in the New Covenant. Lineage means nothing to God--Luke 3:8. But, what is important is the heart, not physical things such as circumcision--Romans 2:28-29. The Jews were just as guilty of sin as were the Gentiles--Romans 1:16. The same gospel saves both Jew and Greek--Romans 1:16. Thus, the Jews and Gentiles have been brought into one body. Reconciled into one body--Ephesians 2:11-18. The past mystery was revealed--Ephesians 3:6. There is one body (Ephesians 4:4), and that body is the church--Ephesians 1:22-33.
ALL are equal in that one body. All (Jews and Gentiles alike) were condemned under sin, so that BELIEF could become the standard--Galatians 3:22. The Law (OT) which created the physical nation of Israel, was only until the SEED should come---Gal. 3:19. And that SEED was Christ---Gal. 3:16. The Law simply preserved people until Christ came and the the Law ended--Gal. 3:24-25. Now, in Christ we are all one, there is neither Greek nor Jew, male nor female, free nor bond---Gal. 3:25-28. Thus, by BELIEF, not physical lineage, we become descendants of Abraham---Gal. 3:29.
DID PAUL SAY THE JEWS, AS A NATION, WOULD BE RESTORED TO GOD'S FAVOR? Was Israel completely rejected by God? Paul argues no, as he offers himself as an example of living proof that some, a faithful core had been accepted--Romans 11:1. God has always had a faithful core throughout the history of Israel--Romans 11:2-4. That had continued until the days that Paul lived in---Romans 11:5-7. Notice that the ELECT now has God's grace or favor. And it is the Christian who is the elect-- l Peter 1:1-2, Colossians 3:12, ll Tim. 2:10. Thus, Paul concludes the remnant of Israel are those who became a part of the election of God in the church.
The fall of the majority of Israel was necessary in order to bring in the Gentiles--Romans 11:8-11. But is their fall was hard, their return, if they believe and it happens, will be all that more glorious---Romans 11:12-15.
The allegory of the branches. Some, not all, of the branches were broken off, those that did not believe---Romans 11: 16:20. God treats the natural branches (the Jews who did believe) and the grafted branches (the gentiles) equally--Romans 11:21-24.
The mystery is that even fallen Jews can be saved---Romans 11:25-27. They are enemies of the gospel, but concerning the election they can become beloved once again---Romans 11:28. Gods gifts are equally given. They cannot be revoked for one group---Romans 11:29. God condemned ALL under sin so that He could show all mercy in the same way---Romans 11:30-32.
Thus Paul said that not all Jews were lost at the changing of the covenant, because some through faith switched over to the church. The fall of the majority, though, showed their sins and allowed God to show equal treatment by accepting only those who believed in Christ, whether they were Gentile or Jew. NOWHERE does Paul relegate this conversion of the Jews to the distant future. Nor does he state that their conversion is connected with Jesus second coming, as it is at this time that Christ is to hand the kingdom back over to the father--- 1 Cor 15:20-25. Nowhere does Paul say it would be a complete conversion. He states that was only if the believed. Nowhere does Paul state that God will ignore the Christian church and the gentiles therein and focus only on The Jews.
Can those that call themselves modern Jews and live in modern Israel be saved. Certainly----By the same manner we are all saved---Gal. 3:25-29.
