The irony of groups that are called "civil liberties" complaining about giving children the liberty to reflect for a minute...
I am glad for this ruling. For one thing it means the teacher is still in control of the class room for a few seconds before all h... breaks loose.
Children need a little enforced formality. So they know how to behave in certain circumstances.
I am appalled at the lack of a structured setting at some public schools today.
A little liberty is great at fun time and recess. But school is a public institution. If nothing else, respect for the institution will be more greatly enforced by this decision.
I see this as a win for teachers who really care about kids.
What saluting the flag and saying a prayer and listening to announcements did for young people in the old days (my days), was to draw attention to the line of separation between informal and more business like occasions.
It's no wonder with mom having to work, kids are growing up disrespectful.
They need for there to be things they just have to do. It helps them mature.
And grow their own self respect.
