In Latin, the word for black is ater.
When the Spanish transported slaves they called them Negro which interestingly enough became a word at that time.
the derogatory version of the N word was strictly what slaves were called in America. Other places the word for indian/black mixed were given the name sambo by the spanish as a derogatory expression from the first usage.
